After building a tall structure(200+ blocks away from land) I noticed all of my tamed wolves had disappeared along with the ones in my farm. Idk which version but have the general idea of 1.17.30 and beyond along with the fact it was distance based and possibly on caves and cliffs experimental mode. If the bug sounds familiar, apparently it happened in 2017 but so far I haven't found anything from this year or anything past 1.17. I hope it's fixed soon because I had several wolves and animals and they're all gone for good due to me wanting to build for fun. I'll have pics from a copy of my world in August and some of now
