Time passes with no players online

I run a Minecraft server, and for at least the past month or so, I have noticed that whenever I log on, the days played counter keeps going up even though no one has been online. This did not happen with previous versions of the BDS. Please revert this behaviour, as now the days played counter is completely useless.
