Riding "Hanging" pigs causes excessive damage

What I expected:
I expected to be able to ride the pig, and dismount like normal.

What happened:
The lead eventually broke, killing both myself and the pig with about a 7 block fall, even though I had full health.

Steps to reproduce:
Use a lead on a pig.
Make a tower with a fencepost on top, and attach the lead so the pig is suspended.
Destroy tower, leaving the post.
Saddle the pig, and ride the pig.
Eventually the lead breaks, (Took up to 30 minutes) and instantly kills both the pig and rider, regardless of height.

Dismounting cause no damage, just if the lead breaks.
