[MC-100813] Can't use 1.8.9 and below

Hi! So Every time I try to use 1.8.9 and below, java loads up like normal, and then the java icon just disappears and Minecraft doesn't load. To redo this, go to the chose the version area, and chose any 1.8 version, and load it, and shouldn't work. If it does works, then it is either my REALLY old computer, or my Minecraft launcher is broken. Please try to fix this if this is a real bug!!! Or at least try to help me fix this! Oh and by the way, the bug tracker wont let me chose the 1.8 versions, so I choose 1.9.2.

Older versions of the game are not supported.

Try going to "Edit Profile" and untick the option that says "Game directory." I had this problem too, so I checked the launcher log and it said something about aborting because it couldn't find the game directory.
