Mobs ghost through walls

I have a Vanilla Survival world (the only "Mod" I have is optifine), and I recently built a Zombie XP farm. I decided to stay AFK overnight to give the zombies time to spawn so I could get tons of XP the next morning. I was in a room with Iron doors and no way for zombies or baby zombies to get in. The next morning when I logged on, It said I had died. So I got iron and diamonds and made new tools and armor again, and then two days later, after making the walls in my room thicker, I tried to do this again, with the same results. It would seem as if the zombies who were in my room had glitched through the walls. This happened again the next day with my cow farm. There was one cow that had gotten out of the farm and was wondering around, and another cow was INSIDE the wall, looking at me. I have not been able to find any articles or questions about this online.

If you're using Optifine, your bug report is invalid - after all, it's possible that Optifine is what's actually causing the problem.

Please explain to me how optifine would make mobs ghost through the walls? after all, the only thing optifine effects is the graphics and preformance.

I believe optifine changes rendering.
