Creepers not afraid of cats

Was surrounded by tamed cats and a creeper ran straight through them to me. Thought maybe it was server lag related? Saw it happen to someone in a video and decided to test it in single player. They will occasionally run from cats but then seem to forget about them, and while in survival mode they prioritize chasing the player over running from cats.
