Transporting redstone signals through blocks is not working correctly

What I expected to happen was...:

Above:
The redstone signal above should be transferred through the block and carried on by the repeater.

Below:
As soon as the redstone block is destroyed, the repeater should turn off.

What actually happened was...:

Above:
Instead of taking the redstone output from the block, the repeater has not been powered.

Below:
When the redstone block is destroyed, the redstone repeater is still on.

Steps to Reproduce:

Above:
1. place a repeater
2. place the stone block
3. place a repeater behind the stone
4. place the redstone block
-> the repeater behind the stone won't be updated

Below:
1. place the redstone block
2. place a repeater
3. place the stone block
4. place a repeater behind the stone
-> the repeater behind the stone will be updated
5. destroy the redstone block
-> the repeater behind the stone won't be updated

Screenshot is attached.
