Hoppers causing CPU lag

Large amounts of hoppers cause CPU lag in servers.

What I expected to happen was...:
Hoppers would not cause as much lag in servers

What actually happened was...:
The more hoppers placed in a concentrated area seem to increase server CPU usage dramatically.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start a Minecraft server
2. View the CPU usage before
3. In the Minecraft server, place a large amount of hoppers in an area.
4. View the CPU usage after

Although it may not be as much an issue on small servers, Some larger servers have had use a mod to reduce hopper updates to 1 per 10 seconds due to this issue.

While you are certainly correct with your report, the fact of the matter is that you aren't reporting anything useful. Stating "it takes more processing power to process more things" is fairly obvious, so the behaviour you described comes as no surprise. While I would want to resolve this report as "working as intended" (that generally left to the devs), I'm leaving it as incomplete. If you are able to provide recommendations on how performance could be improved without compromising the existing functionality, feel free to leave such details here. Generally, "_ cause lag" reports aren't often heavily weighed for developers to "fix" (if that should even be the term to use), unless the source of lag is unusual or unexpected. None the less, your report is appreciated, and you are encouraged to continue submitting reports in the future.
