Bram EnderBolt, since I play minecraft B1.4 and I have discovered that, I have always know the feature of having obsidian by placing a redstone dust below flowing lava and in front of flowing water. It's done with vanilla Minecraft, since it has never been changed but said by notch that is a bug, I think that now a feature.
So, this ticket is a bug of a bug (MC-4239) which won't probably be fixed, because people like the feature ?
Redstone turning into obsidian is a bug. They've left it alone all this time because people liked it, and it wasn't hurting anything – thus, it wasn't worth the time it would take to track down the cause and fix it. However, it's never been declared a feature. If they accidentally fix it in the process of doing something else, they're not going to take the time to put it back, because, once again, it's not worth doing anything about it.
Along the same lines, it's not worth it to them to "fix" issues with it like it not working with powered redstone vs unpowered redstone. The fact that string now also triggers the bug may make them reconsider it as a problem, and lead them to spend the time required to fix it. In that case, they'd probably fix the original bug of redstone turning into obsidian, thus making none of them work.
Let me do this one, mods.
Please do not mark unintended features as infected. (Something like that, mods?)
