Game starts up well. When i try to log into a server the game doesnt respond then crashes.

Hi, I see this problem a lot on this forum. It only started happening for me after I installed the new launcher. I don't have any mods running, but I see a lot of people who the problem only occurred when they tried running with Forge, Badlion, etc. Try uninstalling the new launcher and install the older version. This would be for Windows 7 & 8. This might not work for everything, but I think it's a promising option.
