Minecraft server bug

so i set up my server and everything...such as running the minecraft_server.1.11.2 and changing the server.properties
but when i run the jar file with cmd.exe using the command java -jar minecraft_server.1.11.2 it says the jar file is corrupted

it didnt work....but i noticed on https://minecraft.net/en-us/download/server it said i might have to tinker with the PATH variable....how do i do that

What is the exact error message? Is it "Error: Unable to access jarfile minecraft_server.1.11.2.jar"

Note: Because you are not using any special arguments you can just double click the file which has the same effect.

Regarding the error, I assume you either made a spelling mistake for the server file name or you did not start the command prompt in the same directory or did not use the cd command to navigate to the correct directory.

i am running the server from the jar file...but my friends connected cannot break blocks..but i can. Does it have to do with the fact that i am an operator?

Check how much spawn protection you set in server.properties
