If you start with a full hotbar of items, and you look straight at the ground, and start dropping them, and keep dropping them as they appear back into you inventory your inventory will start to fill up with whatever items you dropped. Here's the video I found on it. I just tested it in the 17w13b snapshot and it's still in this one as well.

I know this is just a bot, but the 17w13b snapshot has released.. In fact I'm playing on it right now, so please update this bot, I don't want to be adding the 17w13b to the affected versions list for hours..
I tried to reproduce this using stacks of iron ingot and varying stacks of redstone/blocks of redstone.
Was not able to reproduce. tried dropping singles and full stacks.
Tried on an actual server. Did not attempt in singleplayer.
Try it on singleplayer, that's how I got it to work. Also, do it in survival. Creative mode didn't seem to work for me.
While I couldnt reproduce a drop stack duplication. I did discover another completely different duplication.
Inside the crafting box. Duplicated an entire stack of wood planks. Even had a stack of 65 at one point...
Was streaming live while I did it 🙂 It only worked with a new player on a new world. I couldnt get it to work on my old player on my old world.
You can see it in action at the 16m30s timestamp. Seems fairly consistent.
I'll try more exact steps to reproduce..
