Able to create single player maps, but unable to join realm

I just bought my fiancé a new HP laptop and put minecraft onto it. She bought an account, and is able to log in. She is able to create single player games, but when she selects realms, it brings her to the screen about buying a realm or trying a realm trial. I host the realm from my account, and have put her name into the players list. She should be able to join, but can't even get past the "start a realm" screen.
