Tamed wolves attack villagers when hit by player

When a villager is hit by a player with "stood-up" tamed wolves nearby, the wolves will attack and kill the villager. Similarly, if a villager is hit by a player with "sat-down" tamed wolves nearby, when stood up the wolves will attack and kill the villager.

This is the case with most other mobs, with the exception of tamed horses, tamed donkeys, tamed mules, and tamed llamas (even when the llama attacks the player), though not tamed ocelots. While not exactly a bug, this behavior is really annoying, as I have lost several good villagers after accidentally hitting them (often due to the villager randomly exiting the trade interface while I'm clicking; see https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MC-117137). Seeing as how tamed horses and such are considered special cases, it seems like villagers too should be considered a special case and not be attacked.

Steps to recreate:
1. Spawn a wolf.
2. Right-click the wolf with bones until it is tamed.
3. Spawn a villager.
4. Attack the villager.

This is an intended behavior of wolves, as they're "helping you hunt"/"defending you". Therefore a not a bug.

This should be reopened. Villagers don't even drop anything when killed.
