I Opened minecraft and it was working fine, i went on to the mojang screen, then the dirt appeared as the background but it just froze as the dirt background... so i waited and it crashed.

This is a known issue that will be fixed in the next update, there will be a snapshot released later today(unknown time) with a fix.
