Prior to 1.12.2, the Windows 10 computer could connect to an old XP game open to LAN. Now it doesn't. I'm not sure what the issue is or what other operating systems it no longer effects.
For clarification, it is not "Windows 10 Edition" - It's the same Java edition 1.12.2 on each PC.

That is correct. LAN hosted by XP, but not dedicated.
I can run any tests you like.

Unfortunately LAN is well outside the area of the game I'm familiar with (I looked at the code, and it uses multicast for something (the multicast IP it uses is 224.0.2.60), but multicast is its own complicated network thing that I haven't ever touched before).
I guess one simple test is to use /publish
to open the game to lan instead of the button itself - /publish
will give you a port in chat; you should then be able to connect to it via connecting to the IP of the XP machine, followed by the port (e.g. 192.168.0.1:51234
). If you can't manually connect to it (but can e.g. ping the XP machine from cmd) then things are in a very weird state.
Probably a duplicate of MC-98598 (Multiplayer list does not always show LAN games). You should be able to connect via the IP adress + port.

Windows XP isn't supported anymore; running it will leave you open to major security issues.
To verify, though - this is a LAN game, running on the XP machine? Not a dedicated server?
