Chicken self-harm bug

Older chickens sometimes get themselves hurt and eventually killed when they jump onto a window with of one block high. They actually hurt themselves by bumping onto the upper block of the window. This issue is bothering me a lot since I have to spawn new chickens to replace the loss. Place help.
