What I expected:
selecting the redstone torch's "lit" state, and then right-clicking to change it to false, causes the redstone torch to turn off for 1 tick, before turning back on again.

It’s an unsupported feature, mojang gives you the ability to use it, but any usage bugs will not be fixed, as simple as that.
