Launcher crashes

I start the launcher (downloaded from: http://s3.amazonaws.com/Minecraft.Download/launcher/Minecraft.jar ), I am able to login successfully, but when I click to the Play button, the launcher disappears, and I got
[hh:mm:ss ERROR]: Game ended with bad state (exit code 1)
error message.

Launcher log (java -jar ./Minecraft.jar >minecraft_bugreport_20180116.log) attached

The launcher doesn't create log in the .minecraft directory.
I attach the lists of the directory (in the .minecraft directory: ls - laR ./ ).

MINE DOESNT SHOW IN THE SCREEN WHAT?

Aron: no.
As I have already explained above:

  • the launcher starts successfully (I start from Linux command line with the java -jar ./Minecraft.jar >minecraft_bugreport_20180116.log command - this command creates the bugreport, that I attached above)

  • I could successfully login

  • but when I click to the "Play" button, the launcher disappears

  • and the launcher doesn't create logfile in the .minecraft directory (I attached the list of the .minecraft directory)

Second try: same machine, OS: Linux Mint 18.3 Sylvia, JRE: Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 9.0.4+11).

I start the launcher with this command: java -jar ./Minecraft.jar >minecraft_bugreport_20180125_first_round.log
The launcher doesn't start:

OK, try with --sync option: java -jar ./Minecraft.jar --sync >minecraft_bugreport_20180125_second_round.log

The launcher starts, I am able to login successfully, but when I click to the Play button, the launcher disappears:

Solved the problem. In my case, uninstalling my Java and installing Oracle Java 8 fixed things. I wonder if the original reporter's Java 9 is what's causing the issue.

Is this still an issue for you, or did it get fixed in the meantime?

I am using debian (buster/sid) with Minecraft Launcher 1.6.89-j. I got exactly the same error messages as far as I can tell. I also tried to remove the VM option and got a "no lwjgl64 in java.library.path" as @Jacob Page. Based on the comment to downgrade to Java 8 (I tried 10 and 11 before) I can confirm that this resolved the issue for me. (Or provides a temporary workaround since Java 8 is not really what I want to use.)

This is still issue with Java 9.0.4:

but works with Java 8.0_171:

It this still an issue with the 1.13-pre5?
