Changing Use VBOs setting after entering a world causes client to crash

After loading up a test world for the snapshot, I had to head into settings to decrease the quality to make the game playable on this computer, and I went about turning off or to minimum all the settings necessary, but when I switched "Use VBOs" to OFF, the game immediately crashed.
