I have fps drops in the jungles of 18w06a when the world generator changed, I also felt that the jungles are with more trees, when I look at another biome the fps is above 100 when I look at the jungle it has a drop to 40, 30, 20.
In version 1.12 the fps is normal above 100

Jungles have always caused a lot of lag. They seem to be more packed now, meaning even more lag. It might be an issue with how the game renders leaves, because heavily forested areas always seem to cause lag spikes.
I think it might be the cause of infinite fire spread or the jungle got thicker(Why I think this is when I go to a jungle in 1.12 and 1.13 feels very different).
I guess I put this comment on the wrong issue.
I reproduced @unknown results. Rapid fire spread is not the cause (maybe a small contributing factor). Switching to fast graphics greatly improves the lag for me. BLU's maybe from all the leaves? I'll try to spam leaves in a flatworld later and report back.
Ok I filled a 64x64x16 area in the sky with jungle leaves and reproduced the issue. Interestingly I had higher FPS under the leaves than over. Flying over the top dropped me to about 3fps. Running under I was around 17. The lag got progressively better as the leaves despawned into saplings.
OOF I just found a jungle and it's putting me to my knees.
Just sudden huge, inconsistent fps drops below the leaves. When above the leaves, generation provokes the same behavior. 1.12.2 jungles run much much better.
Fast Graphics help a bit.
