I open the launcher and click play but then the game crashes. Not even the window opens. No crash report. nothing. I made a video of it.

I have the same problem, and I also have the same processor, operating system, and the newest version of Java (Version 8 update 161).
I get this error in the launcher:
Unreported exception thrown!
java.lang.NullPointerException

Edit: This only affects when I try to log in to a multiplayer server. I was able to open the game on my local machine, and after that I uploaded the world I generated so it was the same exact thing both places. I can open it locally but not from the server. I use NFO Servers, it's a managed Minecraft VPS.
This affected me in both 18w07b and 18w07c.
EDIT: I do have a crash report.
That's MC-125451. Let us know if the eventual fix for that issue doesn't fix your issue.
Why is this one a duplicate? My game don't even starts. It has nothing to do with joining a multiplayer server.
I solved the problem by myself now. When i use the default resolution in the launcher, the game starts.
This problem has not been resolved. When I try to launch minecraft snapshot 18w07c, the game crashes immediately. I have updated java to the latest version and it still does it. 1.12.2 works fine. I've tried changing screen resolution as suggested above and it made no difference. I'm running the game on a MacBook Pro running OS 10.10.5. However, it runs just fine on a Lenovo ThinkPad R61 running Windows 7 and a friend's MacBook Pro running OS 10.12.
Make a separate ticket.
I also was having this problem (crash upon launch). I did as the commenter above and changed to default resolution and the game launched and am currently playing.
Changed resolution ticket is MC-121285.
There is no crash report in .minecraft/crash-reports?
