The bug
After playing 18w07c for a few hours, I got this. I do not know why. Error logs show:
java.lang.IndexOutOfBoundsException: Index -1 out-of-bounds for length 0

Violine, thanks for your early reply, and sincere apologies, I thought the file had attached. I have now uploaded it here (I hope this works)... it's a 200Mb zip of the save-game folder;
https://filebin.net/g2rp1drkf2i816uz/18w07c__copy_.jar
I was playing a 'vanilla' game; except, I did "/gamerule naturalregeneration false" (ie "UHC-style); I made a basic skelly grinder, and connected a village back to my 'base'. Is all.
I'm sorry, I do not know more about this error; I can perhaps guess that it is something to do with me making 2 overworld-side nether portals that connect to one nether-side nether portal. But that is just my best-educated-guess.
If I can give any other info, please let me know; it was a bit frustrating that my 50+ hours on that world ended with that error, and I can't see a way to resolve it - other than starting again, which...OK...I am already doing. But yeah.
If I can give any other help to fix the problem, please let me know. Cheers.
If the world file is too big to be uploaded here, upload it somewhere else and link it here.
