Large ferns only spawning lower half

I don't know why, but for some reason, plenty of large ferns only spawn with their lower half. This might have something to do with world reloading. Any reasons why? Two pictures are attached, there, you can see an image of the fern, then an image of the debug text confirming that it is indeed a large fern's lower half.
