So, I have seen people using the speed mining tactic by putting down a beacon with haste 2 and using an efficiency 5 pickaxe to blow through stone blocks like they're nothing. When I tried to do it in the Java version, it didn't work. I tried it both on my server and on survival mode in single player to no avail. Then, I tried it on the Windows 10 version (which worked just fine), so I know it works in at least some versions of the game.
I have seen other people complain about not being able to use the speed mining technique, but none of them have received answers that will work for me. Was there an update that disabled the speed mining? I do mine faster, but it's still dramatically slower than it should be with instant mining.
I will be reinstalling the game later tonight to see if there is some bug in the way it is installed on my computer, but any feedback would be appreciated.
EDIT: After further testing, the problem that I had was an issue with the buff. It was telling me that I was receiving the haste 2 buff, when I was only receiving the haste 1 buff. When I reactivated the beacon with a full 4 stack and selected the haste 2 option, it began working properly. I hope this helps others who may have had similar issues!
