Again as I was testing this basic stuff on a server.jar, I guess that's why you put the file for download, right? I got the same problem, make a pickaxe, axe, etc, I put in a crafting table two times 4 number of sticks in the middle, add some wood above it for the wanted tool, and now it does not stay the same number, no, It multiplies *2 seems...
Never saw so much sticks there....
And thank you for repairing the attach part, lovely, saves a lot of hassle....
So, server.jar, chop tree down, make planks, make craftingtable, place it, put planks in right order to gain sticks, enough for wanted tools, place the sticks accordingly and try to finish the tools required, then you'll see..... (i hope)

The difference? ehm, let me see, sticks in a crafting table, does not count down when crafting a tool, and instead of not counting down, it multiplied??? Ok, I see your problem here, but it has to do with exactly the same actions on the crafting table.... So, there is the difference....?

And again, I think If I would download them both again (server.jar and MC.jar) and start testing again, it could be resolved by now...
