Unable to open 1.12 world in 1.13

Hello,

I have a world that works in 1.12.2 won't open in 1.13 pre-2. I have been googling this for a few days, I could not find a similar bug reported/

I would like to recreate the basic structures from my 1.12.2 world and load them in 1.13 using as much 1.13 features as possible.

Here is what I did..

In 1.12.2:

-recreated the world using the seed

-set the world spawn to where it was before (about 5000+ blocks away from the original world spawn)

-used structure blocks to add a few of the original world structures around the new world spawnpoint. some are complicated with other structure blocks, entities, portals, end gateways etc

-reset my repsawn point with the /kill command

-saved and quitted

In 1.13 pre2 [edit - originally wrote pre1] I am unable to load the world. It seems to hang at "Loading world" and the console stops at:

net.minecraft.server.MinecraftServer

Server thread

info

Preparing spawn area: 0%

repeating indefinitely. I need to close minecraft from the task manager, and there is not crash log created.

Please find attached. Thank you for your time!

this is a faster way to recreate the error:

create 1.12.2 world with this seed:

7989069131527685205

save and open in 1.13 pre2

[Mod] Neko

Cannot confirm. The attached world opens fine for me. Perhaps wait a bit longer for the world to convert. If that still does not work, after closing Minecraft, please attach the launcher log (.minecraft/launcher_log.txt) here.

Thanks for your help. I left it loading for about an hour, no luck. Please find launcher log attached.

Same problem with mine:
https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MC-130182

On Linux I could open both worlds. Mine and your. Will try both at home again. Probably both I will be unable to open.

Interesting. I can open another (much more populated) save based on the same seed. New chunks are being generated as expected if I move beyond previously generated chunks. File too large to attach, you can dl here:

This is really inconsistent bug, which gives troubles testing it and pointing where is the problem/how to fix it. Maybe together we will find out what causes this. This is caused by world and game installation bundled. Different world can be loaded. Different game installation can load affected worldsave.

Later I'll try this on Linux. Michal are you using Ubuntu? 16.04?

Fedora 27 - working flawless

Windows 10 64bit, intel core i5-2500, 8GB RAM, GTX 1080, java provided by launcher at home - can't open world.

TLDR; try the old launcher.

I was getting a LInux live installation USB ready and had a portable install on the usb I was going to use .. for giggles I tried it and it loaded the world fine!

So perhaps the problem lies with the new launcher somehow? Perhaps the console? Good luck with that!

fyi the issue persists in 1.13 pre-3 I also tried turning off the console, that did not help. However if I load minecraft with the old launcher it runs PERFECTLY!

Can confirm. It just spams the log with "Preparing spawn area: 0%"

mr wobst have you tried using the old launcher? just curious!

Just tried the above test (started world in 1.12 with seed 7989069131527685205, closing and opening world in 1.13 pre5 with the current launcher) and it opened without issue and everything appeared to work as expected.
