so when switching from adventure to creative and back i can no longer place or destroy blocks in that save. Restarting the game dose not help.

This is not a bug. In the adventure mode, the player cannot directly destroy any blocks with any tools or place any blocks, in order to avoid spoiling adventure maps or griefing servers. The player can use levers, pressure plates, buttons, doors, chests, furnaces and dispensers. The player can also put on armor and use tools and weapons, but only to attack monsters.
