Unable to use keyboard to log in after computer goes to sleep with Minecraft open (macOS H.S)

I'm unable to use the keyboard to log in while Minecraft is open in macOS. I end up force shutting it down and turning it back on so I can log in and use it. I've tried connecting an external keyboard but it does not work as well. I've tried replicating it in other applications and games but Minecraft seems like it's the only one that has these problems.
