crash on leaving nether

While in a nether fortress, created a nether portal so I could leave. Stepping into the portal, I had to wait longer than normal, and then was booted out of the system. After logging in again, I was fine, but still in the nether. Tried mltible times to use the portal, always failed. Sometimes the crash would take down the server, other times it would just boot me out.
