Drowned not dropping player items

I was playing on a multiplayer server, when I died. A zombie picked up some of my armor and my sword. While fighting it, it became a drowned, and then it did not drop my items. I assume this is an issue with continuing to track the gear as player owned items when the zombie converts into a drowned mob. After a few quick searches I did not discover any other reports for the same bug.
