If you're flying around, it can sometimes take a long time to load the chunk, and sometimes it just gives up and crashes. I have also had it crash when I opened the weapons in my Creative inventory to test the grindstone, though that was a one time thing, and I'm not sure if it was some other issue causing the crash.
