minecart derails around corners or fails to make turn

When running minecarts around a corner the cart will glitch off the track and will merge into the wall next to the corner or bounce itself back along the track from the direction it came. having the track move up or down a level before the corner did not resolve. removing the walls from around the corner did not resolve, the cart just falls off the track and stops.
