Minecraft hangs entire MacBook Pro

Occasionally when switching from full screen to windowed, and once just playing the game windowed, Minecraft will lock the entire MacBook Pro.

The machine will be briefly responsive for around 2 seconds every few minutes, other than that it's frozen. The system log has repeated entries for:

kernel[0]: NVDA(OpenGL): Channel timeout!

Usually a forced power off is the only solution.

This has only started happening in the last month or two. This machine is used heavily, Minecraft is the only app causing this.

Sounds identical to MC-4446 and maybe MC-10968.

This is a technical support issue; this site is for bug reports only. For technical support please use the Mojang Support Center.

Were you playing through the new or the old launcher? This changes the lwjgl version.

Thanks for the real response Grum, doesn't sound like a technical support issue to me.

Coming up blank how to find the launcher version, but I did update it fairly recently so MC would run 64-bit Java.

Inside the app package MinecraftLauncher.jar is 97825 bytes.

If you don't know the launcher version it must be the old launcher. Download the new launcher from here and see if it still hangs your MBP.
Note that although it says 'snapshot' the new launcher can run 1.5.1.

Thanks GrygrFlzr, have downloaded the new-look launcher. Will report back, but the hang is occasional so will take me a while to be sure.

Well I said I'd report back, but I've barely had a chance to play MC 8-(

I'll file another bug if it crashes again.
