Can't shift on trapdoors

In a two block high space, placing a trapdoor on the bottom block and then opening(laid down horizontally)  it, you'll be able sneak/shift in the space between the two block high space and the trapdoor, but when you stand where the trapdoor is going to open and then open it, you wouldn't able to shift or sneak.
