When killing mobs with lava their drops seems to not drop correctly. A chicken will not always drop a cooked chicken (or a raw chicken) for instance.

Can't reproduce with a cow. This is likely an issue with chickens dying too soon or their drops being burned.
as I said in my comment was there an unannounced change to Chicken's health or lava behavior?
This really used to work, and now is broken
I've attatched two gifs of the same contraption. One in 1.13.2 one in 1.14.1.
Clearly, the chicken dies immediately in 1.14, while it doesnt in 1.13, so there's an unannounced changed to either lava damage, or chicken health.
Its made of simply the usual dispenser with lava, observer, repeater on 3 ticks, observer for a double-edge detector

Cows can take the hit and work properly..
