Reassigned Inventory HotKey to "Tab"

In singleplayer mode, I reassigned the inventory button from "E" to "Tab" (and the player list button from "Tab" to "E").  I can open the inventory with Tab but can't close it, and then have to use the Esc button. I tested reassigning the inventory button to "h", and opening and closing works fine. But the "Tab" button seems to have issues with closing. This is a new issue for me with version 1.14
