After securing a NPC village with a fence my son killed a pillager captain 50 blocks from the village perimeter and got the bad omen effect. Sure enough, we returned to our village anyway... But now we've gone through at least 12 consecutive raids since, and according to the Minecraft Wiki we should only expect 7 raids on hard. Is this a possible bug?
Edit: worth mentioning - after a few waves of raids we moved our village bell to a different spot in our village...

I'm sorry - but I don't see how our bug is a duplicate of the one with the nether. We don't even have a nether portal yet. Could you please explain why you think our situation is the same as MC-146835 ?
Also, I tried attaching my saved world here (after 9+ Raids), but it's a 50MB Zip file which is beyond the accepted filesize. So now, instead I uploaded it as separate files - one main ZIP archive missing the bigger region files, those I've attached separately (they all go into the region folder)
I have one more update: after 3 more raids (so 12+ in total) we got the raids to stop occurring - but without any victory or defeat. We still have surviving villagers, and we did not get hero of the village status. I do have a world save with the last raid if you're interested (filesize > 50MB). Also worth mentioning, the Raid bar disappeared while we still had one pillager on top of a ravager outside our village fence. After killing them the raids just stopped.
Again, this is most likely not a duplicate bug and should therefore be reopened.
One possible reason for the bug we encoutered: we moved the village bell to a different spot in the village after raid 2 or 3...
MC-146835 is about the illager captain giving you the bad omen effect even during a raid. You can see that by moving him into the nether, and you need that to prevent that the bad omen level is immediately counted towards the raid. That doesn't mean it doesn't happen if you don't move the illager captain to the nether.
