Villagers spinning around while in water

I found a village and saw a villager walk into a one block deep pool of water and the villager started spinning infinitely. The villager has never stopped spinning therefore cannot get out of the water and also cannot change profession. 

After an hour of playing, the pool of water ended up with five villagers spinning in it.
