[MC-150744] I cannot mine or place blocks.

I can't mine or place blocks. Mined blocks disappear and do not appear in my inventory. When I try to place a block, it leaves my inventory but is not placed; it disappears. When I disconnect, everything is reset and the mined blocks are unmined, placed blocks are still in my inventory.

Are you on a server and near the world spawn?

Yes, I’m on a multiplayer server and I was mining many layers down from a point near the world spawn point.

This is probably spawn protection. An area of 12 blocks (I believe?) around the world spawn is protected and cannot be altered by players that haven't got OP rights.
