Timing out of server for no given reason

I will join a server for around a minute before being kicked out to the main menu with nothing but "Timed out" to inform about what happened. While playing (usually right before I get kicked), NPCs will stutter and jump around, and parts of the world will be invisible as though it isn't communicating with the server.

Another error sometimes shown is Java throwing an exception:

"Internal Exception: java.IOException: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host."

Are you far away from the wifi router? Flaky connections or some devices like microwaves running will make you disconnect from the server

No, my PC is about 7ft away from it. I don't have this issue with any other game, and from what I can tell I'm not losing any packets from my PC.

This might just be the server being overloaded, see MC-138550. Did you encounter any of the symptoms listed in that ticket while being on the server?

I don't think that's the case; it's my friend's private server and no-one is currently on it.
Yes, some of these issues: NPCs freezing and not being able to interact with them. Parts of the world don't load visually but their geometry is still there so I don't fall through the world.

Could you tell what's your RX value under the "vanilla Server" row in F3 mode when this occurs? Ticket MC-149396 is reporting high RX values and this massive amount of packets could cause your connection to forcibly end up.

It hovers around 70, until it slowly trickles down to 1/0 at which point the world stops rendering and if it stays like that then I get booted out.

Please check if that's still an issue in 1.14.2.

Yes, I am still getting the problem in the latest update.

This is a long-standing issue that happens at least since 1.7.2, see MC-38565.
