I have my inventory open/close bound to the tab key and when I go to close my inventory, it doesn't close it just highlights the book. Tab is not binded to anything else.

Byron, did the description before answering.
Can confirm, TAB-key in inventory selects the "Recipe book" icon, but does not close the inventory as expected when it is set to be the Inventory key.
Though in reality, the TAB key in GUIs is used to switch to the "next element" so it is not very surprising this issue occured.
Try resetting your controlls and see if that does anything It might be a problem with your keyboard? Is it just Minecraft or does this happen elsewhere?
