Player Death from Iron Golem: Unable to retrieve some items/ item won't pick up

After accidentally dying from a village spawned iron golem (tried to hit zombie and sword arc hit golem too), the items in my inventory dropped where i died, but when i returned it only lets me pick up some of the items. I can see the other items (stone pickaxe, sticks, iron ingots), but i cannot pick them up (my inventory is not full, not even close). I tried breaking blocks around the items and they fall, and i collect the dirt i broke, but still the item will not pick up.
