Light Sources Stop Producing Light

When joining into a server, all of the light producing items that have been placed stop producing light. Hostile mobs will spawn as if there is no light source around when before the areas affected were well lit and prevented them from spawning. The only way to 'fix' this issue is to destroy the light source and replace it, but when leaving and coming back again, the light goes out again.
