Blocks not appearing correctly

I am having an issue with blocks not appearing on the screen as they are in the world. I can mine blocks, sand in particular. It would then rubber band me back 5 blocks and the blocks would be back in the world. Except they would be invisible and the block below it would have to be mined for the block to appear again.
