Running, then sneaking still creates particles

When transitioning from running directly to sneaking, particles still appear from the players' feet as if they were running. This happens if you begin to run, and then without letting go of W, pressing and holding LShift. It happens from either double-tapping W, or pressing Ctrl to start running.
