Lever breaks when used on side of piston

When you place a lever on the side of the piston(Not where the piston pushes out at), everything is fine, but the moment you switch the lever the piston activates yet the lever breaks immediately causing a quick activation from the piston. If the lever is opposite where the piston moves then you can switch the lever on but once u switch it off it break immediately.
