Not able to pick up blocks, open chests, doors, or place items in furnace, chest, etc.

Since the launcher has been introduced I cannot place blocks, open doors (except with pressure plates), open chests, or place anything anywhere. I can run 1.5.2 starting in a regular fashion as always, but using the launcher the above error always occurs. I check out every new release, but this same issue continues
