After making edits to the /font/default.png in the minecraft.jar (not a texture pack),using the custom font, then changing to a texture pack with the normal /font/default.png, the letters in the GUI will me misaligned.
To reproduce:
1.Make edits to the alphabet in a copy of default.png (not size or shape)
2.Put the edited .png into /font
3.Use the default textures, then change to a texture pack with the normal /font/default.png
4.Look at the GUI (Item names, menus, achievements, etc. Note that chat appears normal.)
Note: Edits of the .png are counted as modding in this report. No files other than /font/default.png were changed. I am also using the old launcher, because the custom font doesn't appear on the 1.5.2 with the new launcher.

This is because the HD font support via texture packs uses the default kerning. This should be a duplicate of MC-10426.
But the font in the other pack is completely unedited. The textures in the .jar shouldn't change how other font appears.

Actually, Minecraft uses the default.png in the minecraft.jar file for the default font, INCLUDING spacing.
The point is, the texture packs default.png is EXACTLY the same as the vanilla default.png. Changes in a vanilla texture should not affect other texture packs, especially if it is the texture that the game shipped out with.
This happens for me, too, only in book and quill. On Misa Realistic pack 1.5.2, when I write a book, and go to the bottom of the page, it's fine. Then when I switch to default texture - or Disco's OCD pack 1.5 - the text goes off the bottom of the page. It's something I'll just have to get around, it's really no big deal.
