Minecraft crashes while initialising game: java.lang.ExceptionInInitializerError (Linux)

I recently installed the minecraft-launcher package from here (since the legacy launcher wasn't able to download the 1.14.4 update) but the new launcher can't launch the game!

What I expected to happen was...

The game window to open.

What actually happened was...

The launcher reopened with this error message:

The crash report and latest.log are attached below.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open minecraft-launcher

  2. Click the play button on the main menu of the launcher

What graphics card and video drivers are you using?
Also, what are you using in terms of display sever/compositor, such as your desktop environment, etc.

My graphics chip is Intel HD Graphics 4400, video driver is i915, OpenGL implementation is Mesa, display server is Xorg and desktop environment is KDE Plasma!

Can you verify that under $HOME/.minecraft/libraries/org/lwjgl/lwjgl/3.2.2 you find a file called lwjgl-3.2.2-natives-linux.jar ? This should be an archive which has liblwjgl.so inside it.

There is! But for whatever reason it doesn't seem to be loaded when the game tries to launch... since it should be able to find liblwjgl.so inside it if it loads the file, right?

Does this issue persist with the latest release of the game and launcher?
